I get the impression that you think its a tiny advantage.

It looks that way based on Ivy Bridge. But more than ever, process technology needs to go hand in hand with design. Haswell and Silvermont will show what 22nm is really capable of.

But I think you are being very pessimistic considering that they are being competitive on their 32nm process on a design that's 4 years old.
