All of this is from the viewpoint of a casual gamer. If you're hardcore, you should never settle for less than a good quality discrete graphics card.

...Unless you are gaming on a laptop, in which case 250W graphics cards just won't work.

And the non-flippant answer is, there may be a discrete card <50W that delivers great gaming, or it might be integrated graphics at some point.
