Long-term safety of a drug that more than likely will be used irresponsibly, considering the nature of the indication, is a factor.

I obviously agree with that. But I still don't see why lack of efficacy in some proportion of patients is much of a concern - those patients will simply stop the drug after a few months - the company said that 3 month results are a good predictor of long-term efficacy.
