GFS is projecting cat 1 strength going into NY landfall...

So estimate cat 1 winds out to 90 miles x 2 and divided by 15 mph...potential of 10 hrs of cat 1 winds...10 hours of tropical force winds at 40 to 50 mph would be bad enough with the area so wet...

Plan for the worst and hope for the best...

Didn't know that at 10 stories or higher that the wind can be up to category higher either...LJ

Battery powered radio is the only communication available from stations powered by generators if widespread power outages occur from tropical force and higher winds...

Water in jugs becomes a premium item...

Camping stove or Lp gas grills become essential items...

canned goods, crackers, chips, and so forth...

instant coffee instead of a lattee...

and on and on if power goes off for any period of time or extended periods...LJ

Irene may have expanded the cane force winds further out at the expense of some inner core windspeed...

Could be another attempted growth stage prior to landfall...

Earlier forcast had cane force winds out to 90 miles...

Latest forcast tested cane force winds out to 135 miles...keyword...East

More affected may not be better at a little lower windspeed...LJ
