immc, from what I can tell Motorola has not been doing really well the last several years. I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I don't see how Google is going to take this company and manage them better than they were managed before. This is not Google's core business (manufacturing). As I posted a few weeks ago, there are lots of problems when a company like Google tries to absorb a large company like this, that is outside their area of competency. They must do something to achieve synergies with their existing business, or radically change Motorola's approach to the market, if they are going to deliver shareholder value on this acquisition.
I believe in the end they will be left with the patents, and the rest will have to be divested. If they keep the business, it will be interesting to see if Android will remain as the open source OS backed by so many independent handset makers.
