Just for info, the story was also carried on the Reuters news network as well as the internet. Despite the byline, the writer, according to the article on my Reuters terminal, is Tom Ashby, edited by Christian Wiessner.

Lagos Newsroom phone number if anybody wants to check:

Sllabxam....a terrific article to start the day on. You must have caught it hot off the press!!!

It sounds pretty upbeat for award delivery. Even the at one time resigning STP Minister of Natural Resources is upbeat for conclusion stating:

"We hope this meeting will conclude our decisions for the award of the oil blocks," said Sao Tome Minister of Natural Resources Arlindo Carvalho."

Based on this statement made via the junior oil minister of foreign affairs it sounds to me like it makes no difference if Obasanjo is out of the country....awards will be made PRONTO upon the JMC's final review/approval:

"Nigeria's junior minister of foreign affairs, Abubakar Tanko, said the delays were eroding credibility in the licensing process."

BUT....the most interesting lines are very eye catching. Look who's mention in the very next line after the US counting on this region to boost its oil imports:

"The United States hopes to import a quarter of its oil from the Gulf of Guinea region in a decade, from 14 percent now.

Some political forces in Sao Tome are not happy that a little-known U.S.-based company ERHC Energy has obtained preferential stakes in many of the blocks on offer."

......A great article sllabxam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
