General Dynamics is going to be using WCDMA software for the next 10 years in all their Global Contracts for MUOS, JTRS 3G UMTS WCDMA Devises..and IMO: they have no need of utilizing a 2nd License source to compliment what IDCC has been licensed for..

General Dynamics Software-Defined Radio First to Receive National Security Agency Certification
U.S. Navy Awards General Dynamics $16 Million Radio Upgrade Contract
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – General Dynamics has received certification from the National Security Agency (NSA) for software version 5.3 for its AN/USC-61 Digital Modular Radio (DMR) system, which means the Navy is now authorized for operational use of version 5.3 software. This is the first time the NSA has certified a software-reconfigurable, software-defined radio system. Additionally, the U.S. Navy Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command has awarded the company a $16 million contract to upgrade hardware and software for the AN/USC-61 DMR system, using the newly NSA-certified software.

The DMR system is a software-controlled and re-configurable digital communication system that improves the Navy’s ability to communicate with diverse legacy radios. The DMR system will replace multiple mission-specific legacy radios and crypto devices with a single, easy-to-use use interface. On certain platforms, the system reduces the size of legacy equipment by over 50%. Additionally, the software-defined nature of the system will expedite any future enhancements. There are currently 220 DMR systems delivered to the U.S. Navy that will be installed on Navy ships, Navy Shore sites, submarines and test facilities, with an additional 72 systems on order.

Future hardware and software upgrades to be made under the contract include updating the DMR operating system, adding a new High Frequency power amplifier design to allow for secure communications operations over long distances, and other new features to enable the Navy to reduce the amount of space devoted to cryptography on board a Navy vessel. General Dynamics expects to deliver the upgrades to the Navy over the next 14 months.

General Dynamics C4 Systems is a leading integrator of secure communication and information systems and technology. With more than 9,000 employees worldwide, the company specializes in command and control, communications networking, computing and information assurance for defense, government and select commercial customers in the United States and abroad.

General Dynamics, headquartered in Falls Church, Virginia, employs approximately 70,000 people worldwide and anticipates 2004 revenue of $19 billion. The company is a market leader in mission-critical information systems and technologies; land and expeditionary combat systems, armaments and munitions; shipbuilding and marine systems; and business aviation.

mschere, Right now, IDCC is delivering at an accelerated pace versus the original contract. I'll tell what would be a home run, IDCC and GD agree to an extension or an evergreen clause...
