Someone recently asked how deep can a gold mine go. While looking over some other material I saw where Goldcorp (within the last 5 years) spent about C$196 million on a new 1,924 meters (6,312 ft.) deep shaft. The hinge line (the low point of the "U" shaped North & South limb of the syncline) which is estimated at 1800 meters is certainly a very doable mine.

So the grade is important because of the investment required to min, move & process the "stuff".

Also found a nice conversion factor: 68 grams/ tonne is equivalent to two ounces per ton.
