To answer that simply........market makers can do what ever they want and take a stock in any direction at any moment. So it dosent surprise me your bid did not get filled, sometimes you gotta chase the ask and if you do chase the ask make sure theres some bid support behind you or you could find yourself being down a few percent right out of the gate.
