1. The SIM binds the mobile phone to a service provider i.e. Verizon. Internet access is therefore done through this service provider.

2. The MTM stores PKI certificates that allows i.e. a corporation to only allow access to their server by authorized mobile phones. The very same situation as with PCs today.
