I believe they have philisophical (religious) differences with our whole economic system (among other things)and would like to see its downfall.
I read an article a few months ago about what allows ecconomic "progress" in some areas as apposed to others and one of the things that was brought up was that the corporate form of ownership was something that came late to the middle east (if it is even allowed now ...I do not know).Corporations allow a much larger business to exist and ownership to be transfered efficiently.
They have also taken what is written in the bible reguarding borrowing not being desireable and turned it around to saying that lending (or at least charging interest) is not desireable. That creates all kinds of hoops that people jump through to basicly do the same thing but in an inefficient way.
Terrorism increases the cost of running our econnomy (besides all the other bad effects... like killing people etc)from the individual business or building owner to municipalities and the national government for security of all kinds. It also creates fear which I suppose makes some people turn to religion." They " do think we are Godless also.
I put progress in " " above because I suppose some people could feel that what we have achieved since the industrial revolution is not really progress. I myself feel that instead of increasing our individual standard of living it would be desireable instead to use our increasing industrial efficiency since 1950 or so to increase leasure time instead. Gee maybe only one parent in a family would have to work for ecconomic reasons.Would we really miss cable tv and vcr's? I still want my laptop though >grin<
