Matt Simons is not a sensationalist.
Matt Simons was interviewed on Bloomberg May 19th when BP said the oil flow was 5000 - 10,000 barrels per day. Matt said his estimate was 100,000 barrels per day. At that time he also estimated the gas pressure at 125,000 pounds per square inch and in no way could be capped because all the casing would break down throughout the well. He also said the relief wells won't work because the casing is not intact due to the high pressure from below. Matt Simmons also said that some deep ocean bottom searches show the fracturing of sea bad has taken place and oil is coming 7 miles from the Horizon. Matt is a well respected oil man for 35 years and is sticking his neck way out there on this situation because he thinks it is so dangerous. Even his consulting firm partners have disowned him and fired him from the firm he started.
