Re: Another, earlier study by Mercury Research, though, showed that AMD's market share slipped from 21.6 per cent of the worldwide market in the second quarter of 2001 to 15.6 per cent during the second quarter of this year. Mercury uses a different methodology and relies in part on statistics culled from processor manufacturers.

So Mercury seems to have a different methodology than Gartner in calculating market share. In Q2 2001, Mercury has flattering results, so AMD quotes them. In Q2 2002, Gartner is more flattering, so AMD subtly changes their source. Like I've been saying, it's very shrewd, no matter which way you look at it.

One thing that you or Petz have yet to post is how Gartner ends up with results that show a positive 1% change in market share, while Mercury Research shows a negative 6% change for the same period. I don't see how different methodologies can end up with such a huge discrepancy.

BTW, are you Win Smith? I know from a previous post of yours that you are from SI, and I can think of few other people with the same kind of inflamatory posting style. Do you have a good reason for hiding your previous identity? I think other readers of this forum would like to know. TIA.

AMD gains ground in sluggish market

Does it really matter? Intel will make money and AMD will lose money. That's the way it's been and that's the way it will continue. When things eventually turn around Intel will be in a far better position than AMD to take advantage of it.

Re: "*Contradict This*"

One question ... Who is making money (hint: INTC) and who is losing
money (hint: AMD) ??!! This will continue for the rest of this year and
into next year. Care to comment on this ??!! ... Didn't think so.

Make It So,
