So did Bush cut off funding to third wold countries birth control programs because he just respects the Popes position or because those same programs also offer abortions?

Quite the contrary, scripture quoters are just so value rigid that they have rather narrow parametere about interpreting whats bad. I take it war is good, as so many of them are started in the name of one obscure God or another.

I suspect the "flat world theory" of yore could have been justified by the exact same logic, even though all the scientific was pointing to the contrary.

On this we almost agree. We probably would differ in our opinions of what his terms and conditions for acceptance are. Assuming that he exist of course. I'm still not 100 % sure of anything.
