Hmm... Fung, you have to understand where I was coming from when I joined. I was running with a group that graduated from breaking and entering to armed robbery (thank God I wasn't with em on that one). I had just flunked 11th grade, saw the road before me, and wasn't liking what I was seeing.

During the Vietnam War you could join at 17 years of age if you could get one parent to sign, which is what I did. For me it was the best thing I could have done. Trained to be a grunt, but was picked to be an Embassy Marine. Youngest one in the World at the time... was still 17 years old when I got to our Embassy in New Delhi, India.

Anyway back to your question, if this 18 year old has nothing going for him or her right now, I'd say yes... but keep in mind, war will mess with a soldier's head, to some extent. Some it doesn't affect all that much, and other are never the same. Just trying to get you to see the big picture.
