People set their limit buy or sell orders before the open. The demand of those orders can push the spread in either direction immediately before the market opens.

Buy orders outnumber sell orders in the MM's book just prior to the open. If the amount of shares looking to be bought far outweighs the amount looking to be sold then you have a gap up in most cases.

It's heavily depending on the vol of premarket bid & ask.

gambit,it will gap up if there is a buyer to buy it at a higher price, like today.
usually involves news and perceived momentum.
some will dump early just to get out and into another stock.
its just supply and demand
