Data Leak Prevention is exactly that.. to protect data from being leaked. Data Leak Detection is exactly that.. to detect data that is being leaked.

DLP products from McAfee, TrendMicro, Symantec already exist. Their product is to protect data from being leaked from within the network. For example, an employee who intentionally or unintentionally e-mails a list of Customers with prices to a competitor or themselves. The DLP product prevents the e-mail from leaving the network. Another scenario is to prevent disgruntled employees who copy Customer Lists to a USB jump drive. This is a different from Exobox's DLD product, which is a detection. That is correct Data Leak Detection is not a true DLP product. It is in it's own category. Please click on the below link of a demo of what DLP products are supposed to do.
