Lion Brewery Ramps Up Capital Investment
Monday, 09 March 2009
The Lion Brewery, based in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., is ramping up aspects of its business. Two longtime veterans of the beverage marketplace, in conjunction with Blue Point Capital Partners, acquired the Lion Brewery, Inc. in 2007. New owner/operators Ron Hammond and Cliff Risell, CEO and president, respectively, collectively possess more than 50 years of experience in the beverage world. Together, they're making growth, quality control, good corporate citizenship and great beer a priority.

"We believe the Lion Brewery has terrific potential and are backing up our beliefs with investment and aggressive growth plans," says Cliff Risell. "We are proud to add jobs and help make this community more viable."

In the past year Lion has created more than 20 key jobs to strengthen production quality and capability, improve sales and financial functions by: strengthening the technical staff, initiating quality process controls, creating SOPIs C statements of procedures and best practices and renewing organic and kosher certifications.

In addition, the brewery has spent more than $1.5 million on capital expenditures upgrading the lab facilities and centrifuge equipment, filler and keg systems, chemical distribution systems and brewing systems.

"These upgrades have attracted new customers and allowed us to partner with suppliers on innovative and environmentally friendly cost reductions. We are also proud to announce a five-year labor agreement with our employees that focuses on growing our business to the mutual benefit of all," Risell concludes.

The Lion Brewery has been in operation since 1905, producing several brands, including Lionshead, Lionshead Light, Stegmaier Gold, Stegmaier Amber Lager, Stegmaier Porter, Steg Seasonals, Brewhouse Bock, Midsummer White, Oktoberfest, Holiday Warmer, Pocono Lager, Pocono Pale Ale, Gibbons and Bartels.
