It's not due and the USA has never missed a debt payment that I've ever heard of. Some people think it's important for a country to be debt-free. Why? It's only important of the cost of carrying the debt is higher than what the debt provides. I'm not smart enough to know that answer, and I was surprised to find out that the overwhelming vast majroity of our National Debt was to ourselves.
