#25284 RE: rscomps #25283

Well, lets look at what would happen if 8000 a month did show up.

I'm willing to bet that if these are new folks who are not already streaming music in SL, 99% will have NO CLUE what to do after their Avatar has been created in SL. They can find help in SL about being a citizen, but that will not include the "How do I stream music for the VStarr contest?" questions.

So, they will start looking for help with that. The Vstarr website says to "Contact Us" for help. Well, let's also assume that on the "New" website, there actually is a "Contact Us" section.

If they only want to be a little bit helpful, the response might be..
1) Here is an equipment and software list. Go buy this stuff.

2) Find a venue owner who is willing to help new people learn how to stream. Here is a list of some people who do that.

* Did I mention that you have to have a stream to send your sound/music into SL? A stream is basically a URL that you transmit your audio to, and then SL can pick it up so people can listen. It's not unlike a radio station. People can only hear what you can broadcast, but you've got to have the broadcast equipment to get it to them. If you don't already rent a stream on your own, you will have to find someone who will lend you theirs. Most venues will have them for you to use. Will venue owners want to be swamped with 8000 new people a month people asking for help get set up??? I assure you venue owners are busy people, many/most with fulltime jobs outside of SL, and many do help a few new people each month to get started. But will 8000 people a month find help? Not likely. Will venue owners get totally pissed with this HUGE influx of newbs looking for help? Yes. They will be able to find instructions on what to do (eventually), but they will have to do it to get any good at it, and that will require someone who knows, sitting with them and coaching them thru the process. Hmm.... this sounds like a business opportunity. And no, I wont do it for free.

3) Show up and be ready to stream your music.

If They wanted to be REALLY helpful, they would do this...
1) Here is a list of software and equipment. Go buy this stuff.

2) On VStarr island in SL, we have a full time staff with a number of streams provided for you to practice and learn on. Here is the contact, make an appointment with them ASAP to get you trained and set up... AFTER you buy everything on the list in #1 above. They will provide you with step by step instructions, set up an initial appointment to help you install your equipment and software and get started, and set up additional appointments for you to come and practice.

3) When you show up for your performance, you will be trained and ready to go.
