OT: choad - the tie ...

Is likely a tight checked or dotted pattern. The effect on your t.v. is called a moire effect. It's caused by the grid lines laid down on your t.v. being lower resolution than the density of the pattern on the tie.

I'm sure somewhere, there's a High Definition television salesman who'd love to tell you all about how that effect wouldn't happen on an HDTV set. :-)
