GoG News: Portuguese worker wounded in ambush in restive Cabinda oil province

Lisbon, March 6 (Lusa) - A Portuguese construction company worker has been wounded in a road ambush in Angola's oil-rich Cabinda enclave, a Portuguese government official confirmed Thursday.

An official at the State Secretariat for Communities in Lisbon said the construction worker, António Carrapinha, was wounded in an arm and a leg when he came under automatic weapons fire Monday while driving along a jungle road.

The attack, which has not been claimed, followed the killing of a Brazilian worker and the burning of two vehicles in Cabinda last December in a similar strike.

Separatist rebels have long fought a low-intensity guerrilla war against Luanda's forces for the independence of the northern enclave that pumps more than half of Angola's 1.8 barrels of oil per day.

The government signed an autonomy and peace accord with some separatists in 2006, but other Cabinda Enclave Liberation Front (FLEC) factions denounced the deal as a sellout, vowing to fight on.
