I completely understand where MP suffix meant a processor for 4 or more sockets,and DP meant a processor for 2 or more sockets. And the silicon for single socket and four socket systems was different, because of FSB characteristics.

With Nehalem and CSI,the same silcon will run with any number of sockets. However with more sockets,additional CSI (or memory) links may be needed for higher performance. Definitely 8 cores also needs more Memory and CSI links, and maybe that is the reason for the MP moniker on 8 core-Nehalem.

I guess Intel marketing has a year to sort out the MP naming conventions for Nehalem
