Undone, the JDZ was established by a treaty between STP and Nigeria which settled a long standing disupte as to who was entitled to exploit the natural resources between their overlapping 200 miles economic zones. Nigeria had the better argument to entitlement and if STP had not agreed to the treaty and its 40/60 split of revenues then STP could have lost the dispute and been awarded a boundary giving them a much smaller piece of the pie if any.

Fat chance that STP will try to void the treaty now and go back to a boundary dispute with Nigeria. They would have to give back $35MM they don't and lose their butts in the boundary dispute battle. Plus, the last time I checked Nigeria has a navy and STP doesn't. Of course, STP doesn't need a navy. Nigeria sends its military when STP needs one, like when De Mendes got booted by a military coup. He was escorted back on the Islands by Obasanjo himself.

Undone, as others have posted and as President Y'Adur of Nigeria stated after he took office, any extensive disagreements with the present JDZ treaty and PSCs could return the area to a Sao Tome and Nigerian boundry dispute.

Not a hoped for objective of Sao Tome.

I do agree with you that the US government has shown that it can not be trusted re: Sao Tome and ERHC e.g,; the exaggerated Sao Tome AG report composed by an ex-State dedpartment official and the unannounced and uncalled for raid on ERHC offices by the FBI.

However, Mike Madigan, one of our lead Washington Attorneys, did assure listeners of the recent conference call that he thought the investigations about ERHC would not go on forever and could possibly be resolved soon w/o having to go to court.

By the way whose wife visited Sao Tome recently?
