I definately had no reason to doubt Walter in Europe its common practice for everything to close down for two weeks until after New Years. Canada usually follows along more with Europe on those things whereas in the US you can count yourself lucky to get Christmas and usually New Years day off.

You called them on a Sunday and it surprises you they were closed on a Sunday?
Before you engage in more rude behaviour you should check:
what dates the labs were closed from, and
what date the samples arrived in the destination city.
