I don't like putting my 2 cents worth in, however excel I had the pleasure of meeting rxgator at our little stock holders party in Ocala, Fla a few weeks ago. He is retired and one fine upstanding person, and as I remember was not ashamed to mention his faith. I think his point is that R&D is HUGE $$$$ involved, something that is not easily recouped. Our Medical compared to the rest of the world is years ahead.

From the Christian point - yes medical cost are impossible for the poor, no, question. What can I do as a Christian to help. I started a Medical Fund in my sunday school class. This is used to assist those in need, 1st those of the faith, then others. 2nd. my wife has very good credentials, (CEBS)
along with her expertise which come from her career and she is available to assist the unfortunate in applying for benifits which are readily available to the poor. Those who are disabled or totally without do have assistance available.
Christians IMO need to step up to the plate and share with MONEY, KNOWLEDGE, TIME.
Stop to think for just one second -- If we took a map of any locality then put colored pins in it to idenify the location of each and every church, then each and every church start doing the work of our Lord and Savior, the medical issue would no longer exsist, the hunger would be solved, the shoe issue would disappear, etc. etc. However quite often Christians would prefer to talk a problem to death, and collect money for project many, many miles away and neglect those of the faith, and their next door neighbor.
I do appologize for rambling on...But I do have a passion which calls Christians to step forward....Christians number in the millions in the U.S. -- Good Lord only knows what could be done if these millions of people could do if they would just step forward. FAITH
