There's a much larger battle going on out there...handset-makers want to develop their own branded products and so do the operator/carriers. Why? It's all about getting more of the revenue pie from the growing number of cell phone users around the world. The carrier/operators, IMO, are in a much better position to determine what ultimately becomes the de facto standard for barcode reading/PWC rather than any handset-maker, at least for now. The walled garden still prevails...and NEOM either has or will get its nose under the tent because of its willingness to 'share' the technology with the principal 'intermediaries' in the whole process.
