Lloyd off the subject of MDFY and onto Guitar lessons. How long have you been playing? Do you have a decent guitar and is the action setup nice and low? I have been playing off/on since I was real young(10 yrs old). I am watching my son get pretty good(14 yrs old). I have bought him a couple of guitars and I have learned how through the years to do a decent setup. I figure if I could tune-up an MRI a little guitar should not be too difficult. Are you playing an electric? If you like Southern Rock..take a look at this EBAY item. You can learn some decent riffs pretty easily from this DVD...
Item number: 160046473358 the teacher Dave Celentano slows it down and you can than watch it via your computer...I take some neck scale paper and write down the neck positions and my son and me practice together and learn some neat riffs.
I found that having a guitar setup real well does help a lot when learning to play...a real cheap guitar cannot be setup with nice and low action.

I appreciate that you serve as a Teacher, I have to assume you have patience, or should have. I have a 16 year old, good kid so I am lucky. This past summer he was involved in a car accident with 3 other boys, the car hydroplaned and hit a fence. The metal pole gate entered the car and the driver got a 3 inch pole to the head, dead instantly. Another pole hit my son in the mouth, totally trashed his upper and lower jaw and took out 12 teeth.

Getting that call at 1:30 a.m and being woke up with Andy one of the boys in the car, telling me my son is in a bad way and hearing the ambulances in the background, my worst experience in life that night, BUT even with my son in ICU, I thought that I was VERY LUCKY MAN.

How do you want to look at things?, sometimes life has a way of making you think how lucky you are and it has nothing to do with $$$$$$.
