Joncon: UMTS is the evolving 3G global standard that has been in development for many years. IDCC has actively engaged in technology development and patenting designed to make contributions to that evolving standard and has participated in some of the 3G standards committees responsible for defining this 3G standard. IDCC is hopefully making many contributions to the primary divisions within the 3G UNIVERSAL MOBIL TECHNOLOGY STANDARD, such as WFDD, WTDD, TDS-CDMA, etc. and is counting on this to assure itself of generous streams of revenue from its licensing contracts with 3G cellphone providers. The sooner cellphone operators and providers move to the UMTS 3G standard, the sooner it is possible, we hope, for IDCC to achieve success in efforts to increase company revenues. This is a somewhat simplified explanation of IDCC's relationship to the UMTS. Perhaps others can flesh it out further for you.
