They're a nice tool to have in your possession both as a "play" and as a hedge (protection). You can control a large amount of stock with a much smaller cash outlay than you could buying the stock outright. But the risk(s) are enhanced due to the limited time frame they are good for i.e., time is NOT your friend in OPTIONs. Make sure you do get a good understanding of what you're doing before venturing would be my suggestion ;-)
