It's ironic, but in this case it really is the tail wagging the dog. The FDA approved the machine. Insurance companies won't approve it until they see a cost benefit to themselves. In other words, rather paying for countless and in many cases tests with negative results, they would rather wait and only pay for the confirmed cases that require much more expensive treatment. Early screening provides peace of mind, and early treatment prevents horrors later.
