Re: What I don't see is anything real spectacular. It looks like maybe AMD gained that minuscule 1% or so market share.

It was a lot more than that. In terms of revenue share, they increased CPU sales 35% QoQ ($1.3B vs. $970M), while Intel increased theirs less than 1% ($4.93B + $2.4B vs. $4.94B + $2.33B). That means their revenue share (excluding other x86 vendors like VIA, etc) increased from 13.3% to 17.7%, more than 4% pts.

That did not all come from ASPs, either. According to Keith on the new AMD thread, Hector said that ASPs grew 6% over the quarter. So most of their new revenue share came from units. They probably gained 3% market share in units, which would put them at ~20% of the market.

Note that this is still shy from their peak in 2001, however. I think the analysts believe AMD will continue to take share from Intel. After all, Intel is guiding down 8% based on inventory concerns, while AMD is guiding flat to slightly down.

Taken at face value, they would be right. However, I suspect AMD is being hopeful, while Intel is being conservative. As Intel ramps 65nm, their competitive position will only get better.
