Well, I know that with a bad liver comes portal hypertension which is a huge strain on the heart. If the liver isn't working correctly the kidneys attempt to make up for it, though that isn't what they were designed to do so one ends up with conditions such as weeping edema which becomes easily infected and is also a hindrance to proper hygiene, which leads quickly to problems such as cellulitis. So yeah, anything one can do that helps the liver should be done, especially if a person already has issues with it.
