Ericsson Deploys Integrated Multi-Access Solution for CDMA2000 and WLAN
for China Unicom
STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Apr 15, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERICY) today announced that it has deployed a multi-access network based on its CDMA2000 network and Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) solutions for China Unicom in the Sichuan province. Built on Ericsson's global 3G Connectivity Packet Platform (CPP), this seamless multi-access solution will allow China Unicom to efficiently and cost-effectively deliver advanced mobile Internet services to their customers.

Ericsson's CDMA2000 multi-access solution will enable China Unicom to complement their CDMA2000 network, optimised for mobility and coverage in the wide area, with WLAN, which is optimised for high-speed data in local area coverage and will support services in "hot spots," such as airports and conference centres. This solution enables the end-user to have an "always best connected" experience that offers seamless mobility with secure connections and the highest data rates possible, all from a single subscription.

Ericsson currently supplies its total CDMA2000 1Xnetwork to China Unicom in the Jiangsu, Anhui, Sichuan, Yunnan, Henan, Heilongjiang and Liaoning provinces.
