I once had a concussion that made me blind too.

I had something similar happen after a concussion, except that the vision loss was gradual (over the course of minutes) and it started from the center and worked its way out - I always had at least a bit of peripheral vision but in the center there was absolutely nothing. Not white or black, just nothing. Fortunately it started coming back after about an hour. As you say, a scary experience. And very strange, too, having vision only in a strip around the edge.
