Uranium One to downsize Willow Creek
By MJ Clark

June 18, 2013 --
A year after reporting record revenue of $530 million and an increase in sales volumes to a record 9.9 million pounds of yellowcake for 2011, Uranium One is pulling back.

The spot price for uranium hit a seven-year low of $39.75 last week, the first time it's been below $40 since March 2006. Crosshair Energy Corp. took the hit hard, and has announced it is delisting from the New York Stock Exchange.

Citing low commodity prices, Uranium One is reducing its exploration efforts and workforce at its Willow Creek mine, laying off 16 workers at the mine and ten support staffers including geologists, finance and office staff in Casper.

Currently at Willow Creek, the company has two drilled well fields that are producing and a third that is half-drilled, which it plans to complete.

In March, Uranium One's board approved a deal to be taken private by the Russian firm and majority stockholder JSC Atomredmetzoloto (ARMZ) and its affiliate, Effective Energy N.V. for $1.3 billion Canadian. The deal is expected to close during the third quarter, after obtaining final regulatory approval.
