Elmer, I think it's pretty incredible that an Itanium 2 submission for high end OLTP is outperforming the best IBM has to offer for Power4. It sure took long enough for optimizations to get put in place, but that's what Itanium architecture is all about - improving performance via the compiler. NEC was able to improve their score since their first submission 6 months ago by about 40%. Nothing says that this will be the final score, either.

Of course, I'm still eager to see how HP does with their 64-way Itanium 2 based Superdome submission. I'm also quite interested in how Madison will do on this benchmark (I'm guessing about 30%).
