Hi Steve,

You could reduce the amplitude of the series. I.e. in stead of a low of 4 and a top of 10, try a low of 5, then try a low of 6 etc. Check for each range the optimium safe settings, and see if there is a relationship. Maybe that could be used to optimize safe settings for actual stocks with a given dynamic.
