That's a hard case to make. He's retired military with a healthy pension. I'm sure his higher level government jobs had retirement benefits that have him SET FOR LIFE. He's sold book deals and does public speaking for additional income. It's hard to believe he "sold out" for MONEY. If he sold out it's because he agreed with whatever greater objectives the Bush Administration has for military invasion and occupation in the Middle East. It's not hard to think of strong arguments for civilizing that part of the country at the point of a gunbarrel. Our governments don't always tell us the real story behind military actions and terrorist acts against us.
