PORTLAND, Ore., Sep 01, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Roger Kay, president of the market intelligence firm Endpoint Technologies Associates and former vice president of client computing for IDC, has joined the advisory council of the Trusted Computing Group (TCG). The open industry standards organization enables products, including PCs, servers and software, which protect critical data and information across the enterprise.

Kay joins current council members Rob Enderle, David Farber, Moira Gunn, Carl Lanwehr, Gary Roboff and Rigo Wenning. The group, which was formed in 2004, provides input to TCG about computing and communications security issues, applications, and privacy.

To date, more than 15 million Trusted Computing PCs have been shipped to enable organizations and users to protect their data and e-mail; guard against spam, malware and viruses; protect networks against attacks and unauthorized use; and enable secure e-commerce and other transactions. The group recently announced specifications for trusted servers and a specification to maintain the integrity of networks. It also is working on specifications for trusted storage, trusted peripherals and trusted mobile phones.

Kay's company advises computing industry providers on product and market strategies, including long-range planning, competitive assessment, forecasting, and market positioning. Formerly, he was vice president of client computing at IDC, where he analyzed developments in PC markets. Prior to joining IDC, Kay founded a research firm focused on technology. He also has directed operations at ILA, a creator of multilingual text-processing software; managed a product portfolio for a technology analysis spin-off of Arthur D. Little; and managed international accounts at Codex, a Motorola subsidiary. Kay earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Bennington College and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.

TCG is an industry standards body formed to develop, define, and promote open standards for trusted computing and security technologies, including hardware building blocks and software interfaces, across multiple platforms, peripherals, and devices. TCG specifications are designed to enable more secure computing environments to help users to protect their information assets from compromise due to external software attack and physical theft.
