Depends on what resolution and quality settings you run at, as well as what threshold you have for FPS.

If you are running on a 13x7 display and running on low or medium settings, Sandy Bridge should get >30 FPS, especially in games like WoW or Star Wars, which are relatively low complexity.

If you have a 16x9 display, you'll almost certainly need to drop down to low quality settings, unless you are ok playing at ~20 FPS.

Depends on what you consider playable, given you describe yourself as a non-gamer.
