Chemed Corporation operates through its two wholly owned subsidiaries: VITAS Healthcare Corporation (VITAS) and Roto-Rooter Group, Inc. (Roto-Rooter). The Company operates through two business segments: VITAS Group (VITAS) and the Roto-Rooter Group (Roto-Rooter). VITAS is focused on hospice care for terminally ill patients. Through its team of doctors, nurses, home health aides, social workers, clergy and volunteers, VITAS provides direct medical services to patients, as well as spiritual and emotional counseling to both patients and their families. Roto-Rooter is focused on providing plumbing and drain cleaning services to both residential and commercial customers. Through its network of Company-owned branches, independent contractors and franchisees, Roto-Rooter offers plumbing and drain cleaning service to over 90% of the United States population. During 2010, the Company completed four business combinations within the Roto-Rooter segment
