In addition to "other avenues"...I was against the vod idea just on the basis that Frank thought it wasn't the way to go and I have to trust him; this is his biz and he must know better than I do...however, if after this huge Pride season push there is no break in the carriers, I would say it is possibly time to think about it. A lot of folks feel strongly that VOD is the future (not the pod thing, but straight VOD like here! has) and if there is no break soon we have to consider it as another tool in the war chest. NOT because there isn't enough interest for linear...there is tons of interest from the community or else Logo would not be launching. But purely because it would then be clear that the carriers are stonewalling us. They are dinosaurs from another time, apparently, but they do hold the keys to the kingdom unfortunately. (What did one of them reportedly say? "There are no gays here?" LOL!) The question is, if Q goes VOD, can it sustain and promote itself there long enough while VOD becomes the huge new common paradigm that people are saying it will become soon, so that it can bring in the numbers. If Q can figure that out, then it is no different at that point than being scrambled and on linear carriage, once the audience "subscribes" to it via VOD. VOD will then just become a quick do-it-yourself way of subscribing. Instead of a phone call, you use your remote. What's the diff? (Except that people aren't used to it yet.) But Frank needs to be able to promote it on VOD at that point, and since that's all new to him he may not be comfortable jumping in to the new model. I can't blame him since it's not quite there yet, and I'm comfortable for now following his lead. But I hope he has experts on board that can promote Q, no matter what avenue of carriage he eventually accepts. That promotional knowledge will be crucial if the time ever comes to take a stab at VOD, and much preferable to just drying up and blowing away again. No one wants to see that, I'm sure. I'm going to trust Frank has surrounded himself with the people who know when it's time to bust a move, if it comes down to the wire. Until then, it is a real nail-biter. (But a fun one.) I know with VOD our pps jump upon an announcement won't make me rich overnight, and may be another long slow difficult climb. But it is just another tool. I'd rather see him exhaust every tool before failing. Failure is not an option at this point, and Q knows it as we do. But for now, I'm okay with waiting so long as Frank says he has the funding to do so.
JUST IMO. Thanks.
(I didn't mean for this to be so long SORRY!)
