Frost & Sullivan Recognizes MRV OCS for Excellence in Carrier Ethernet Demarcation & Service Provisioning
Leading Carrier Ethernet demarcation vendor receives prestigious Frost & Sullivan Product Differentiation Excellence Award for competitive features in OptiSwitch® and true differentiation in scalability of the Pro-Vision® service management system

September 12, 2011 08:33 AM Eastern Daylight Time
CHATSWORTH, Calif.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--MRV Communications™, Inc. (Pink Sheets: MRVC) (“MRV” or the “Company”), a leading provider of optical communications network infrastructure equipment and integration and managed services, today announced that MRV Communications Optical Communications Systems™ (MRV OCS) has been recognized as a leading Carrier Ethernet demarcation vendor and honored with a Product Differentiation Excellence Award by the growth partnership company, Frost & Sullivan. Specifically, the award called out the Pro-Vision® service provisioning and network management system for its compelling ability to address critical service and element management requirements, as well as the capacity to scale for hundreds to tens of thousands of Ethernet demarcation devices. Both features are essential to the demands service providers are facing today as they ramp up their Carrier Ethernet service offerings.

“With Carrier Ethernet deployments growing and evolving to better address infrastructure upgrades and new service offerings, we knew it was important for the sophistication of the service provisioning and management system to evolve with it as well”
.Service providers are scaling their Carrier Ethernet deployments not only in terms of number of subscribers, but also the number of attributes and nature of Carrier Ethernet services. As a result, the service provisioning and management systems have also evolved to meet the new service deployment scenarios and requirements. According to Frost & Sullivan’s research in the Carrier Ethernet demarcation segment, in addition to scale, features related to service assurance and performance monitoring are proving important and essential to differentiating the different solutions currently available on the market.

MRV OCS’ Pro-Vision with zero-touch provisioning, found in the OptiSwitch® Carrier Ethernet demarcation series, offers a carrier-class service provisioning and management platform for a wide range of applications and tools to fully manage and control large-scale Carrier Ethernet networks. The graphical user interface (GUI)-based software platform enables service provisioning, monitoring and troubleshooting tasks to be performed from an easy-to-use, central network management application. This, in combination with the hardware-based Operations, Administration and Maintenance (OAM), allows MRV OCS to provide leading scalability with regards to the number of performance measurements monitored, and allows today’s communications service providers to deploy thousands of demarcation devices and a comparable amount of services with minimal effort — a feature unique to MRV OCS and a critical element to scaling services and profitable operation.

“Our research shows that Pro-Vision, with its zero-touch provisioning, high scalability, enhanced security and proactive fault management features are suited to the critical service management requirements of the Carrier Ethernet demarcation segment in the Ethernet business access network,” said Prayerna Raina, Research Analyst, Frost & Sullivan. “We feel with service providers now looking to scale their Carrier Ethernet services, it will be critical for the service provisioning and management systems to support all the features on a large scale basis. MRV OCS has proven in its deployments that its Pro-Vision service management system can support these large scale deployments.”

“With Carrier Ethernet deployments growing and evolving to better address infrastructure upgrades and new service offerings, we knew it was important for the sophistication of the service provisioning and management system to evolve with it as well,” said Dave Stehlin, Senior Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing at MRV OCS. “We are pleased to have Frost & Sullivan honor the OptiSwitch Carrier Ethernet demarcation and Pro-Vision management system with zero-touch provisioning as not only having all the important elements of a competitive and intelligent Carrier Ethernet demarcation solution, but also for how it is meeting the needs and addressing the challenges of service providers worldwide as they scale their Carrier Ethernet deployments.”

The Frost & Sullivan Best Practices team of industry experts presents awards to companies demonstrating best practices in a variety of regional and global markets. These Best Practices Awards recognize the superior planning and execution of product launches, strategic alliances, distribution strategies, technological innovations, customer service, and mergers and acquisitions. Factors such as leadership, strategy, service, innovation, integration and development are also considered as part of the award methodology. The companies that are commended as Best Practices Award recipients are those with the diligence, perseverance and dedication required to develop a successful business plan and excel in the increasingly competitive global marketplace.
