HELSINKI, June 2 (Reuters) - The world's top mobile phone
maker Nokia NOK1V.HE launched two new low-end handsets on
Thursday, the 1110 and 1600 models, aimed at first-time users in
growth markets like Africa.
The models feature a speaking clock and large fonts. The
1110 has an inverted black and white display, suited for sunny
conditions, while the 1600 has a colour screen, Nokia said in a
statement from a press conference in Nairobi, Kenya.
Nokia indicated a price of 65-85 euros for the models which
are expected to hit shop shelves during the third quarter, but
analysts said these prices would likely decline once the phones
are shipped in large volumes.
"These are indicative prices and what they actually sell at
is another thing," said Hakan Wranne, a Stockholm-based analyst
with broker Fischer Partners.
But market watchers said the Finnish firm would not need to
cut its prices deeply to respond to its main rival, Motorola's
