A Henryetta minister was arrested Tuesday in Tulsa on charges alleging that he sent sexual text messages to a minor.
Joseph Monroe Leal, 36, was charged Friday in Tulsa County District Court with two counts of using technology to engage in sexual communication with a minor.
He surrendered Tuesday to Tulsa County sheriff's deputies in the lobby of the Tulsa Jail, Sheriff's Sgt. Shannon Clark said.
Leal was released from jail Tuesday on $10,000 bond, jail records show.
He is the pastor at Immanuel Baptist Church in Henryetta, according to court documents and the church's website, where he is listed as Joey Leal.
Phone calls to a number listed for the church were not answered Tuesday.
The charges allege that Leal sent the messages to a 16-year-old girl in Tulsa County.
Tulsa County Sheriff's Detective Taressa Maybee alleges in an affidavit that Leal met the girl at a church camp in 2009, when she was 14. After the camp, the girl began receiving text messages from Leal that were "related to spiritual subjects," Maybee states in the affidavit.
The girl began receiving sexually explicit text messages from Leal the next summer, with the messages eventually becoming more explicit, Maybee wrote.
The messages continued until this spring, and the girl began saving them, Maybee wrote.
