DD Update: Just spoke to John E. Moss, Town Administrator for Bladensburg. Here's what he told me.

Currently they are building a pilot project that will have 5 Eco-Poles in the city parking lot. He expects to have that done in 30-60 days. The pilot project has several green energy aspects to it, including the Eco-Poles.

They will evaluate the Eco-Pole over many months as they try to get approval/funding from the state for a larger project along Annapolis Road. That's the one that will have roughly 100 Eco-Poles, if the project is approved. He feels really optimistic about the state approval for that project, but it's not something that will happen overnight. That's the way government works. He says he's targeting 2014 for major build-out, but that could change.

Another part of this is an Eco-Hub, which would involve SavWatt. They are still negotiating so nothing is final. But the idea is to have a 15,000 sq. ft. facility in Bladensburg, or one of their sister towns in surrounding communities, and that facility would support 25-30 jobs. It would be used to build Eco-Poles for the Annapolis Road project, as well as produce other Eco-Poles for nearby projects. The town has received interest from neighboring communities who are very interested in the pilot program and the Eco-Pole technology.

So basically they are using the pilot as a marketing initiative to get other communities interested in similar green technology. And as a test project for the technologies. Once approved, they expect to get funding for larger projects and use the Eco-Hub facility to support those projects.

Bottom line, IMO, we're on to something very nice long term.

Deal on the merits of the company, not on the hopes or fears of the inexperienced.
