Anecdotally, I have the opposite experience, with most folks that I talk with who were gold bugs lessened their holdings when things were looking hairy a while back (exactly when they should have been adding.) Many are still waiting for more pullback before jumping back in, and few have rebuilt their positions to any where near where they were before.

I think this move has caught both the bulls and many bears flatfooted.
