I was talking about medicare/medicaid. 90% covered by insurance by the end of this year? That's pipe dream. I have no idea where the author got that information. The health insurance mentioned in the article is entirely different from what we know here. Even if you are covered, which many urban residents (urban resident definition needs a full page to explain) are, majority of care cost is still paid by individual. The type of health insurance equivalent to ours is tiny right now.

I'd agree China is trying to provide some safety net, health care is the direction they are moving to for non-urban residents. It's going to take awhile, 2020 is reasonable goal for basic care coverage. Private insurance is tiny, and government hasn't spent much money on health care. China will be a big market for big pharma, but it will take time.
