yankee...

I do not think the cable problems are fixed, but at night I am not using my trading programs which are very bandwidth intensive and seem to be choking my computer's cable modem. A few weeks ago Comcast forced me to give up my Motorola modem that I had been using for a couple of years with no trouble, but after trying two different brands of new modem, neither has been able to handle the load. At night, when those programs are not running, everything is fine, but during the day I am having to shut down all but a few market minders and associated windows to save bandwidth, and still things get totally mired down. Driving me nuts.

How do you like XP?? I have another computer with XP but do not use it often because it cannot run DOS programs, of which I use a number that I wrote back in the pre-civil war years and would hate to trash. I think I have read somewhere that there is a compiler that will enable DOS programs to be run on windows, but I cannot find it if one indeed exists. I have also considered getting a large gig hardrive and partitioning it so that one section uses XP and the other Windows 98 where I could boot into whichever one I needed. I was self taught in writing software and do not think I am willing to put in the hours necessary to re-learn a new language. I guess what I am asking is whether or not XP is good enough to give up my DOS programs for.

I would appreciate your opinion - thanks.
